Paper Format
Has at least 5 pages double-spaced in 12 point, Times New Roman font.
Has at least 3 pages double-spaced in 12 point, Times New Roman font.
Has less than 3 pages double-spaced but may still be 12 point, Times New Roman font.
MLA Format
Has at least four citations from different genres of sources and has cited the sources according to MLA format (shows control of MLA format).
Has at least three citations from different genres of sources and has cited according to the MLA format.
Has less than three citations from different genres of sources and lacks control of MLA format.
Content (Historical analysis)
Paper illustrates background information about the novel and knowledge about the importance of the novel in its time period and it relevance to society.
Paper illustrates knowledge of the background, and time period of the novel and demonstrates some knowledge of its relevance to society.
Paper demonstrates knowledge about the background of the novel but does not speak about the relevance to society
Conventions/ Grammar
Writing conventions and language contain few errors. Shows reasonable control of sentence formation.
Language and writing conventions are used correctly, with some occasional errors.
Language and writing conventions contain many errors. Lacks control of sentence formation including capitalization, punctuation and spelling.
